It's A...

Girl!!!  I'm having a little baby girl!  I love her so much already and she is getting very active.  Since I'm stuck on the couch with my broken ankle, I've been obsessively looking at baby stuff online.  I've discovered I'm an even bigger geek than I thought because all I want to do is buy geekie onesies.  Here's what I've found:

Harry Potter Onesie from Geekling Designs
Wonder Woman Onesie from rhoadworks
Doctor Who Onesie from Geekling Designs
Microscope Onesie from happyfamily
Chromosome Onesie from Xenotees

Another Handpainted Jewelry Box

As I mentioned before, I have been working on new jewelry boxes with a turtle pattern.  They are finished!  I have made two and they are now in the shop.

I carved a turtle shape eraser for this one.  Other than that, my technique was pretty similar to my owl box.

I do have a confession; my colors and turtle design were inspired by a sorority at my college.  There was a sorority called Delta Zeta whose colors were pink and green and their symbol was a turtle.  Although I was in a different sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, I always liked the DZ's color combo (are you shocked that I was in a sorority?  most people are.)

New Jewelry Pieces

I've been experimenting with my wooden jewelry lately and just finished putting some of these pieces in my etsy shop.  Let me show you some of the pieces I have been working on.

Red Floral Necklace

First off, you might notice that I have started painting the sides and backs of the pieces.  I used to leave these plain wood because I like the contrast of the wood and fabric.  However, now I'm thinking the painted wood adds a finished touch and an extra pop of color.

Second, I tried making some pieces with glitter.  I covered the finished piece with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and then added glitter.  It definitely gives it a different look.  I hope to keep experimenting with this.

What do you think?  Do you like these new styles?  Did you prefer the old?

New Hand Painted Clutches

I recently finished a few more of my hand painted clutches.  As you may remember, I enjoy finding clutches at thrift stores and then giving them a fresh new looks.  Here is what I have done lately.

The first is blue and a bit more subtle than some of my previous ones.  I decided to go with a blue jay and add some hints of purples.  I also added black outlines to some of the fabric details to help tie the whole piece together.  I'm really pleased with the result.

The second is an experiment that resulted in success.  I tried covering the clutch with two different fabrics this time and liked the added detail this gave.  I kept my painting simple and did a flower rather than my traditional bird.  It's definitely a bold look but would be a great gift for anyone who loves color.

You can see all of my clutches here in my etsy shop.  I'm hoping to add some more over the next few months.

Back in Full Swing- New Shop Items and a Show

I have been busy getting ready for a show at the Seattle Public Library tomorrow.  I'm very excited to be joining another talented artist for the First Thursday Artist Event.  If you are in the Seattle Area I would love to see you at the show!

I find that as I lead up to a show, I convince myself that I never have enough inventory.  Well, I spread everything out yesterday while I was price-tagging items and realized that yes, I think I have enough.

In other exciting news, I have been starting to get a lot of my pieces in my etsy shop.  I had lots of items that I had yet to list or had listed and let expire.  They are back up and I am close to reaching 100 listings!  Only a few to go!

New in the Shop: Home is Where the Heart Is

I found some adorable wooden houses in the craft store the other day and was inspired to create some new jewelry pieces for the shop.

"Home Is Where The Heart Is" Brooch

I'm really pleased with the way they turned out.  I was going for an overall distressed look and I think I achieved it.

If you want one of your own, you can find the brooch here and the necklace here.  Check out more of my Valentine's Day themed items here.

New Felting Kit...And Why I Love Handmade

I recently bought a felting kit on etsy and it came in the mail yesterday.  I was delighted with my package.  I've found that the little details are what really make buying handmade special.

Notice the brown stripe around the package?  This little touch, along with the heart sticker, made me delighted to receive this package.

Inside, I found a nice note and my wonderful kit.  I can't wait to start felting!!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...

I spent 5 hours at my church today helping put up Christmas decorations.  It was like being thrown into the deep end of holiday spirit.  I'm ready though.  Christmas CD is in the car, space is cleared for the tree, shopping lists are being made.  It's time.

Song Sparrow Recipe Box

I just listed this box in the shop yesterday.  It's a recipe card holder that I painted.  I decided to do the song sparrow because I just think they are so cute.  I love their mix of brown and white.

Do you like to collect recipes?  I usually tear them out of magazines, but also have some hand-written ones on note-cards.  I even have one for chocolate bread pudding that my mom gave me at my wedding shower; it's a family recipe :)

I did a bit of searching and found some cute recipe cards you could use to complete the set.  Check them out:

My Wish List

Every year around this time, my mom starts asking me for a Christmas list.  She likes to get her shopping done early and get special presents for everyone.  This year, I decided to create a "handmade wish list" with some things I like on etsy.

I usually try to make gifts for all my family and friends, so I thought I would like to receive unique, handmade gifts as well.  What kind of gifts do you like to give and receive?

More Shop Changes In The Works

Does anyone else feel like the first year of your business is filled with constant change and learning?  Oh wait, that's just life in general.

Vermilion Flycatcher Box

I have been thinking a lot about my shop and talking with some awesome crafty people and have decided to spend more time focusing on my decorative painting pieces.  Which means less time on jewelry.

Cecilia the Painted Bunting

This change will most likely involved splitting my etsy shop into two separate shops (cue vision of mad scientist laughing).  One shop will be painted objects and one will be jewelry.  Nothing is final yet, but look for these changes in the near future.

Kansas City is Awesome

When you grow up in Kansas City, one question you hear a lot is, "Is that in Kansas or Missouri?"  Well, it's in both.  It's a city too awesome to be held in one state.  I think this print captures it perfectly.
