RAW Showcase

This past weekend was my art show with RAW: Natural Born Artists.  I had a blast.  It wasn't the easiest show I've ever done, being four and a half months pregnant with a broken ankle, but it was still a great experience.  My sweet hubby built me a new display for the show and I was really pleased with it.  I was trying to mimic a traditional art gallery that I filled with my non-traditional pieces.

The night included visual artists, a performance artist (juggling, etc), two musical performances, and a fashion show. 

I definitely felt a bit out of my element.  I'm more of a sit at home and watch Doctor Who kind of girl, but I still really enjoyed the experience.  It was fun to try something so different.  They have these groups in cities around the U.S. and I would definitely recommend checking them out.

RAW: Natural Born Artists

Hey Guys!  Just stopping by to let you know about a show I will be participating in next month.  I was recently contacted by a Seattle artists group called RAW.  They put together shows featuring a wide variety of artists, including musicians and fashion designers.  It sounds like a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to displaying my pieces at such a dynamic event.

First Thursday Wrap-Up

I had my show at the Seattle Public Library yesterday and it went well!  First of all, the library is in a really awesome building.  If you have a chance to visit it, go.  Otherwise, here is a glimpse.

Next, the FriendShop is cool.  Lots of local products and the shop itself is neat.  See?

I had fun with some new display pieces.  Here is a picture of my entire display.

I made this new display board using some old cabinet doors.  My husband helped remove the knobs and we used the hinges to hold them together.  Then I just put a bunch of nails in.  I wasn't really sure about this but I enjoy the rustic look.

And I used my new artist doll, Pierre.  I brought him on a whim but I really like the way he looks.  He's so helpful at holding my pieces.

Back in Full Swing- New Shop Items and a Show

I have been busy getting ready for a show at the Seattle Public Library tomorrow.  I'm very excited to be joining another talented artist for the First Thursday Artist Event.  If you are in the Seattle Area I would love to see you at the show!

I find that as I lead up to a show, I convince myself that I never have enough inventory.  Well, I spread everything out yesterday while I was price-tagging items and realized that yes, I think I have enough. 

In other exciting news, I have been starting to get a lot of my pieces in my etsy shop.  I had lots of items that I had yet to list or had listed and let expire.  They are back up and I am close to reaching 100 listings!  Only a few to go!

I Heart Indie Holidays Wrap-Up

Well the show yesterday went alright but pretty slow.  I think the cold, gloomy weather may have kept people at home. 

One positive thing I found out was people were interested in charm bracelets.  I normally put out some of my bird charms but at this show I decided to try offering bracelets as well.  The response was positive and I sold three by the end of the day.  In the future, I may try putting out more and having a few pre-made bracelets.  For this show, I put one charm on a bracelet as an example but otherwise had blank bracelets so people could choose their own charms.

Finished Bird and Craft Show!

I know you are dying to see the final product of my bird project.  But first, I wanted to invite anyone in the Seattle area to come out to my show today!  I will be selling my work at the I Heart Indie Holidays show.  It is taking place from 11am to 6pm at Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, 1310 N. 45th St., Seattle, WA.  Yay!

Now, for the bird.  Here she is!  I gave her eyes and eyelashes.  I think she looks pretty fancy now.

She was pretty excited about Christmas so I let her pose in the tree.  She was sad to leave it but excited to hear she could hang out in a little Christmas tree tomorrow.  Now hopefully she can find a good adoptive home!

UCU Awesome Finds

I did some MAJOR shopping this weekend at Urban Craft Uprising.  There were so many amazing vendors that it was hard to resist.  Let me show you what I got.

My first purchase of the day was a pickle ornament.  I got this from Kristen Rask, owner of Schmancy and president of UCU.  She's pretty awesome.  I just found out that she wrote the crochet book I bought this past spring.  How cool is that?

Next, I bought this print from Rachel Austin.  I've loved her work since the first time I saw it a few years ago and finally bought a print.  I love the little birdies on a swing.

I found this hat from Flipside Hats.  It was a tough choice but I just loved this one.  Plus it fit my head well (I think I have a big head).  The cool thing about it?  I can turn it inside out and have a brand new hat, if I feel like being particularly wild and colorful :)

Although I didn't take a picture of this, I got some bath fizzies from Estrella Soaps.  They smell AMAZING.

There were lots of tasty treats being sold as well.  I bought two lollipops from This Charming Candy and a holiday pack of macrons from Lilli-Pilli Patisserie.

Finally, I did buy a couple of Christmas presents.  I bought something for my husband that I can't show off yet and a CD for my brother.  It's a compilation of artists from Tender Loving Empire.  Even the packaging is awesome.

Urban Craft Uprising Overview

Well I'm exhausted, but the weekend was great.  There were over 10,000 visitors to the show this weekend!  I bought lots of cute stuff but was too tired to take pictures; I'll show you tomorrow.  For now, check out how big this venue is:

Day Off

I'm taking a break from posting this weekend because I am so busy helping out with Urban Craft Uprising.  If you are in the Seattle area, definitely come out and check out the show.  I helped set up all day today and everything is looking amazing.

Urban Craft Uprising

The show is happening THIS WEEKEND!  I'm not selling at it, but have been working as an intern to help get ready for the show.  I will be there all weekend helping things to run smoothly.  I can't wait to see all the work and do some Christmas shopping.  So many cute pieces.  Check out the blog to see all the vendors that will be there.  I hope to see you there!

Holiday Bazaar Wrap-Up

Yesterday I was at the Holiday Bazaar at the studio of Holli Dunn Photography.  It was a bit of a slow day but still enjoyable.  I forgot my camera but snapped a few phone photos.

I got festive for this show and added a little Christmas tree to the table.  I found it for $2.50 at Fred Meyer so I was pretty excited.  I think my birds were happy to have a tree to perch in.

I also added a few free goodies to my table, a candy bowl as well as stickers and buttons.  The stickers and buttons had my tag on it and I also added a large tag to my table.  I had to explain it several times but everyone was pretty impressed by the demonstration.

Show Vendor: Close to my Heart

At this Friday's show, you will not only be able to buy finished pieces of art, but you can buy supplies to make your own art!  Close To My Heart will be there with scrapbooking supplies.  I used to scrapbook quite a bit, does anyone else scrapbook?

Show Wrap Up

As promised, here is a show recap.  Things went well despite the fact that I felt less prepared than usual.  It has been a busy week; my mother-in-law was in town and there was lots going on.  But I made it alright and managed to set up despite having less inventory than I would have liked and not all my price tags done.

I set out buttons for the first time but didn't end up selling any.  Oh well, maybe next time.

I didn't get too much opportunity to shop because I didn't want to leave my booth.  However, I did get a few things.  I was right across from the girl from Herbal Philosophy Teas who was very sweet and gave me free samples all day.  The gingery-lemon hangover blend was particularly nice on my sore throat.  I ended up buying some and have been drinking it non-stop.

I also bought a sweet little brooch from the girls next door, Potosamia.  Mine looks like this one but has a different little girl.  Cute, right?

All in all, a good show.  I would do it again next year.

Show On Thursday

Hey!  I normally post these reminders the day before a show, but this time I'm doing it TWO days before a show.  I need to post my Iron Craft Project tomorrow.  Crazy, I know.

I'm going to be selling my work at a show on Thursday from 10:30-1:30.  It will take place at the Experimental Education Unit, a school associated with the University of Washington that focuses on teaching children with diverse abilities.  A percentage of my sales will go directly to supporting the school. 

So if you live in the Seattle area, you should come for some awesome shopping and a great cause.  Here's a small preview of some of the vendors that will be there.

Auburn's Artrageous Wrap-Up

Yesterday was Auburn's Artrageous.  The weather behaved and while it was cloudy, there was no rain.  This was my first outdoor show and a larger space than normal.  I had a tent, but will probably tweak my display in the future for this big of a space; my table looked a bit small. 

As far as vending went, it was kind of a slow day.  I think it may have been because the crowd in attendance was coming more for the free events and not for the craft vendors.  I can't really blame them; there were lots of fun activities, especially for kids.  First, there were lots of craft activity booths.  I was impressed by the diversity: wood carving, painting, sculpting, etc.

Second, there was an Alice in Wonderland interactive show going on throughout the park.  I don't know how many bunnies I saw walking around, but there were a lot.
