New Journal: Smash

I got a treat at the craft store yesterday.  A Smash journal.  Several people in my life had been encouraging me to journal but I've never really enjoyed the process.  It felt boring and I never went back to read old entries.  But then I had an aha moment when I realized I could make it fun by doodling and gluing things in.  Enter Smashbook

I borrowed these off the website, but I got this exact model and have already started using it.  I love that there is a pen/gluestick attached.  The pages are all really unique with backgrounds and prompts.

Does anyone else journal?  What methods have you found work for you?

  1. I used to journal....but lately life is so hectic that I just can't manage to fit it in. Matter of fact that was what the blog was supposed to be for me...take the place of the journal. I think the social media sites have also sort of stepped in.
I used to just buy plain empty writing journals....nothing fancy....and write, paste and paint my way through it. I used to also "round robin" journals in small groups of artists. Have fun with your journal....it can be / become whatever you want it to be.

  2. I've been keeping a diet journal. I'm slow at the dieting though. But I do find that it helps me and I do put other thoughts and such in there. Sometimes it helps to put your thoughts down.

  3. Erika and Deb have got me journaling and although I enjoy the process, I have a hard time "letting go" and just writing whatever I want. I tend to edit myself too much. That Smash journal looks pretty cool and like it'd certainly help in the process of anything goes into a journal which is the way it should be. Enjoy it!

  4. I love Art Journaling! You might want to try a free (if you want) workshop over at "Art Journaling Ning." I used to be all about words in my journals, but being around art journalers has sure changed my outlook. Visit my blog and link to my Inspriation Blogs, and you'll see what I mean! {:-D

  5. thanks for the great thoughts! I'm having fun so far, but it definitely is a challenge to let go of my perfectionist nature.

  6. Good luck with your journaling! I've put together a few journals for others to use, made one to give away when the etsy bloggers did an exchange. I think it would be fun to make an art journal just for me. It's been inspiring to read my fellow bloggers posts on this subject.
I think letting go is the point. Yes. it's hard. But you could always cover up/rip out pages you don't like.

  7. I love this idea. I'm not too great at the traditional journaling either. I only wrote in it when I was really happy or really upset about something... it ended up seeming very bipolar. haha. I think I'll get a smashbook though!
