This week, we were challenged to create a camp craft as part of the Iron Craft Challenge. I never actually went to camp when I was a kid, so I used my imagination :)
I decided to do a tie-dye project. I'm going to be honest, I chose to keep it simple because I didn't want to spend too much money on dye. I selected one bright color that I love and chose the spray on dye because it looked easier to use.
I started with with a plain light green t-shirt from Old Navy and a small doily to use as a stencil. I laid the doily down on the shirt and then scrunched it up around it. Next, I just sprayed the whole thing with dye. Once it was dried, I got a pretty cool effect.
Not wanting to stop there, I used my newly dyed doily to decorate a plain coffee sleeve (I found this at Joanne's-they actually have a great selection of plain items to decorate). I just glued it on and then stitched around it with some bright blue embroidery thread. Two-projects in one!
I also tried stitching the word "yum" along the edge of the sleeve. It looks...alright. :)

That looks great and I love how you reused the doily for a second project! I didn't even know they had spray on dye though. That might be something that I have to look in to :)
ReplyDeleteyeah! it was really easy to use. In case you are wondering, this is the product I used: http://www.simplyspray.com/products.html

ReplyDeleteThat doily gives a very cool effect. I've been thinking about getting in to dying fabrics, but haven't had the nerve yet, mostly cause I'm doing so much other stuff already. Very nice blog by the way!
ReplyDeleteI love both of those projects!
