Happiness is Homemade

I found this tray at a thrift store on Saturday.  I'm pretty sure I squealed and hugged it.  I love the combination of the cross-stitch and the wood.  But beyond that, it's such a perfect phrase for me.  So today, I thought I would share why I love homemade.

I love making things myself for many reasons.  There's the challenge of seeing if I can do it myself.  Whenever I start a new craft project or try a new recipe, I have no idea whether it will work out.  Then when I'm done, there's the pride of accomplishing something.  It's a chance to learn and experiment.

When I buy handmade, I like knowing that I am helping someone else to embrace those feelings.  Sure, homemade items are usually unique and charming.  But the thing that draws me in is imagining the person who made it, sitting there, crafting the piece.  I imagine the joy they felt when they finished it.

Those are some of the reasons I love handmade.  What about you?

  1. Cute find! I love giving homemade gifts for people more than I enjoy buying handmade items. I do like to support Etsy by buying supplies there, though, and I buy some handmade.

  2. The Office Season 7 Christmas Episodes show the joys of giving homemade...though they stole the idea from my beautiful wife.
