Mt. St. Helens

This weekend I was out of town hiking up Mt. St. Helens.  It was beautiful and an extremely hard hike.  The hike was five miles each way and very difficult terrain; forest, rocks, and an ash field.  The ash field covered the last mile and was like walking up sand; every step involved sliding back.   I wanted to give up but was very proud when I reached the top.  A nice reminder of the value of hard work :)

  6. Great photo! One step forward and two steps backward ... I do that without the ash ... LOL

Wondering, does the ash well up and into your eyes/nose?

  7. I remember doing some hikes like that with my first hubby. We tried Mt Whitney, but got rained out after trying to bivouac for the night. We were soaked to the bone and left in the night by flash light! Another time, it was a skree slope (like your sand slope) and we actually got to the top after I threatened to divorce my hubby, if I ever got off that mountain! I know the feeling of finally arriving and being so proud that you completed it! Bravo!
