ICC#25- Secret Code Necklace

This week's Iron Craft Challenge was to create something with a QR code.  If you don't know what this is, click on the Iron Craft link for an example.  It's the square graphic design thing that you can take a picture of with your phone and pull up a website (aren't I so good at tech talk?).  I got a little fancy with mine and used a Microsoft tag (which has colorful little triangles).  My husband works at Microsoft so I think I might be biased :)

I started by going to this site to create my own tag.  It was pretty easy, just fill in the blanks.  I created two, one for my blog and one for my shop. Once your information is entered, you click on the picture of the tag to download the image.  You can chose how you want to download it (plain, with text, etc.).  Here is an example of mine:

After creating and downloading the tags, I printed them out in on plain white paper.  I trimmed around the tags (make sure you leave a white border-something about the way it scans) to fit two small rectangles of wood.

Next, I painted the wood black and glued the tags on with mod podge.  Once dry, I drilled holes in the top of each and gave them a final coat of sealer.

Finally, I attached a jump ring to each and connected them with a long stretch of chain.

That's it! To wear this necklace, fold it in half and tuck the two ends through the loop.  It forms a lariat style necklace.

Now my friends can scan my necklace with their phones and pull up my sites.  Plus it has a retro 80's feel.  Awesome.

  1. I didn't know there were Microsoft codes. They are a lot prettier than QR codes. Funny my husband was just up in Seattle visiting Microsoft last week for work.

@kat-yeah, I wouldn't have known about the microsoft ones either, but I asked my husband what he knew about these codes and he showed it to me :)

  5. I love that idea! Plus, I think you can take regular QR codes and do them in color, and they still work -- it's the pattern that is important. My phone isn't smart enough to test it though =(
